UK crypto ads on Meta and the FCA financial promotion rules

Crypto ads aimed at the UK sit under two sets of rules: Meta's cryptocurrency ad policy and the UK financial promotion regime, which has covered qualifying cryptoassets since October 2023. In practice the promotion must be made or approved by a firm the FCA allows to do so, and Meta can ask you to show that before ads run. An appeal without that proof rarely changes the outcome.

Check before you appeal

Fix first

  1. Pause UK targeting until the approval question is settled.
  2. Get the approval details in writing from the authorised firm.
  3. Update the landing page so it matches the approved promotion.
  4. Then request one review that says what changed.

What we can help with

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can I run crypto ads to the UK without FCA involvement?

Generally not for qualifying cryptoassets. Check with the FCA rules or an adviser, not with an ad agency.

Does a non-UK company need this?

It applies when the promotion is aimed at people in the UK, wherever the company is based.
